One year later, recalling March in Milan still brings back that refined coolness in the air. As the founder of SOULMATTE, last year’s Milan journey was not only an overseas debut for the brand, but also a profound dialogue about “sustainable craftsmanship” and “Mindful Aesthetic.”
This story begins with the Milan Pop-up Store organised by Fashion Hong Kong.
From March 7 to 30, 2025, we set up our three-week Pop-up exhibition at Corso Garibaldi 73, near Milan’s Brera art district. This historic street is filled with design sensibility, lined with boutiques and artistic spaces — a true microcosm of Milan’s fashion atmosphere.
In Milan, the global pinnacle of leather craftsmanship, we arrived with SOULMATTE’s cactus leather handbags carrying both nervousness and anticipation. We have always believed that eco-friendly materials should never be a compromise on aesthetics, but rather an elevation of elegance.
On Media Day at the Pop-up Store, the refined displays and soft lighting beautifully highlighted the graceful lines of SOULMATTE’s be:ing collection. Local media, KOLs, and fashion insiders stopped by one after another. What impressed me most was the look of surprise on their faces as they reached out to touch the bags — “Is this really made from cactus?”
“The texture feels just like real leather, yet the sustainable philosophy behind it gives the material a deeper soul.” This was the most encouraging comment we heard that day.
Italian fashion KOL Emma Gritte fell in love with the Mini Lotus in Lavender Lilac at first sight. She praised the design for embodying a unique sense of “elegant harmony” and later filmed a video herself (see video), showing her followers how to incorporate this Mindful Aesthetic into everyday styling.
Actress Roberta Nicosia, on the other hand, chose the Large Lotus in Lavender Lilac (see her instagram). For her, it was more than a fashion piece — it was an extension of her beliefs. She mentioned that SOULMATTE’s vision of living in harmony with nature perfectly aligned with her personal values. This genuine resonance from professionals made us deeply feel the boundless possibilities when Quiet Luxury meets sustainability.
Beyond the media and KOLs, we also met many guests who appreciate quality during the Pop-up. One lady trying the Large Zen shared with emotion:
“My wardrobe is already full of traditional leather handbags, but the unique design and practicality of the Large Zen, combined with the cactus leather philosophy, make me feel this is the choice modern women truly deserve.”
Later, we received a photo from a customer who purchased the Mini Lotus in Mango Yellow — that bright yet gentle yellow looked exceptionally harmonious and well-matched in her elegant office. These cross-cultural recognitions were our most precious harvest in Milan.
Looking back on those days at Corso Garibaldi, the most nerve-wracking moment was waiting for professionals in the leather capital of Milan to judge our “new material.” However, when we saw customers joyfully stroking the fine texture of SOULMATTE’s plant-based vegan handbags and genuinely appreciating this design from Hong Kong, the sense of fulfillment was indescribable.
This was not just a Pop-up exhibition, but proof that Craftsmanship can transcend material limitations, and Sustainability can be an elegance that comes from within.
It has strengthened our belief that Mindful Aesthetic (淨心美學) is not an abstract concept, but a living attitude that can be truly touched and felt.
