Finding Light in the Dark: The Story Behind SOULMATTE’s New Cactus Leather Bag “Eclipsarc”
Dear SOULMATTERS,
It has been a while. Today, I want to share a journey hidden behind the SOULMATTE brand with you. For the past two years, aside from our everyday small goods, we haven’t released any new cactus leather handbags. This blank space was actually a conscious “Eclipse” phase for both the brand and my own life.
The "Eclipse" Phase: Choosing Depth Over Breadth
After SOULMATTE passed its honeymoon phase as a startup, we reached a crossroads that required deep reflection. In a fast-paced era, rather than blindly rushing to expand, we intentionally chose to slow down, refocus our energy, and build a solid foundation first.
As pioneers promoting Desserto® cactus leather, we chose the road less traveled. Educating the market about emerging sustainable materials requires immense patience. Furthermore, to truly honor our commitment to the planet, we decided to step back from the conventional mass-production rhythm at this stage, adopting a more mindful “Made-to-order / Pre-order” model to minimize unnecessary waste.
When we are carving a new path against the current, it is easy to feel overshadowed by the clouds of impermanence. But through reconnecting with my inner self, I slowly came to realize a truth:
The darkest moment is never eternal.
Refining in the Dark: The Birth of the Eclipsarc Vegan Leather Bag
Just like a solar or lunar eclipse, darkness is merely a temporary concealment. If we learn to let go of our immediate anxieties and go with the flow, we will find that the light is always right there behind the shadow.
Those days that felt quiet were actually a necessary period for us to refine our brand’s true core. Because of this journey, I named our first 2026 release Eclipsarc.
Its inspiration comes entirely from this concept of “Darkness and Delicate Light.” We spent four months working with our artisan team, perfecting the resilient vegan cactus leather to achieve a naturally draped, gravity-defying arc. As a large capacity everyday shoulder bag, we added a custom half-moon metal clasp to symbolize the glimmer of faith that remains even in the dark.
This is more than just a sustainable designer handbag; it is the strength I gathered from resilience. Now, I want to pass this glimmer of faith on to you.
